Batteries, blades among 56 objects removed from UP boy’s stomach, patient dies

As many as 56 objects, including watch batteries, blades, nails, and other metal particles, were removed from the stomach of a 15-year-old boy in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras after he complained of stomach pain and difficulty in breathing. However, the boy, a Class 9 student, died during treatment after the surgery.
The victim, Aditya, had recently developed severe stomach pain and breathing difficulties. He was initially admitted to hospitals in Hathras and then in Jaipur, which sent him back after brief treatment.
Despite multiple consultations, the boy’s condition remained unchanged, and the family took him to a private hospital in Aligarh, where a surgery was performed to remove a lump in his nose to alleviate his breathing difficulties.
Although the breathing issue was resolved after the surgery, his stomach pain persisted without any improvement. This prompted an ultrasound, which revealed 19 objects in his stomach. The doctors there referred him to a hospital in Noida.
At the Noida hospital, a scan revealed the presence of approximately 56 metal fragments. Alarmed by the situation, the family took the boy to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, where a major surgery was performed on October 27.

The boy died a day after the surgery, as his heart rate spiked and his blood pressure dropped alarmingly, his father said.
However, the victim’s family and the medical community are equally baffled as to how these items ended up in his stomach. There were no signs of injury in his mouth or throat to suggest that the boy ingested the items either deliberately or accidentally.
